2022 GMC Terrain Interior
GMC continues to impress with its lineup of SUVs, including the GMC Terrain. The Terrain brings unique curb appeal with sharp exterior style, from the signature C-shaped LED headlights, sculpted sides, and trim-specific grilles. You also have options for wheels of different styles and colors.
Under the hood, you get a capable 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. As a result, the Terrain puts out 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 1,500 pounds when properly configured.
Here, we’ve decided to take a deep dive into the Terrain’s interior features. We’ll review cargo, seating, technology, and more to help you better understand the Terrain as you look for the perfect vehicle.
2022 GMC Terrain Trim Levels

Much like the rest of GMC’s lineup, the Terrain comes in four trim levels, plus a special edition.
Terrain SLE Trim
The base-level SLE trim comes nicely equipped yet provides limited access to options and upgrades. Entering the SLE’s cabin, four-way manually adjustable seats great you with ergonomic comfort. Premium cloth seats come standard, and you have the option to add heated front seats.
The second row split-folds for multiple cargo and passenger configurations, and the second-row and front passenger seats fold completely flat with the push of a button. Behind the second row, you have 29.6 cubic feet of cargo space. When you fold the second and front passenger seats flat, the cargo area reaches 63.3 cubic feet.
GMC installed a 7-inch touch screen display to power all your infotainment systems. This includes an AM/FM radio with SiriusXM enabled. In addition, you have OnStar and GMC Connected Services pre-loaded on your SLE. You can sync your smart devices with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and Android Auto capability. Now, you can make calls, reply to texts, access your favorite apps, get navigation information, and be more hands-free by speaking simple voice commands. An available Wi-Fi hot spot connects multiple users and ranges up to 50 feet.
Terrain SLT Trim
GMC upgraded the interior of the SLT by adding an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a six-way power passenger seat, both with power lumbar support. Other comfortable amenities include the heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and premium leather upholstery.
Also, you have options for leather colors and styles, and the ambient interior lighting allows you to set the cabin lighting to match your mood. Finally, while the cargo capacity remains the same on the SLT as on the SLE, you now have a power programmable liftgate making loading all that gear easy.
Your SLT’s in-vehicle tech runs through a larger 8-inch touchscreen, and in addition to the two USB charging ports on the base model, the SLT adds two data ports for enhanced connectivity. GMC also added the convenient universal home remote system that syncs with your home devices like the garage door, gate, and security systems.
Terrain AT4 Trim
The enhanced off-road edition of the Terrain, AT4, comes with much of the same features as the lower trims, with a few exceptions. For instance, the leather seats have stylish AT4 badging stitched on them and signature color options.
AT4’s leather-wrapped steering wheel heats and has all of your infotainment and cruise controls to operate your electronics and driver-assist functions. The AT4 features a dual-zone climate control system and rear-seat vents to keep all passengers comfortable.
Terrain Denali Trim
GMC’s top-level trim Denali builds off the other trim levels. Terrain Denali models add sophisticated and luxurious amenities to elevate your driving experience. Premium perforated leather upholstery cradles you in upscale comfort, while the Denali logo and accent stitching add a refined look and feel.
Your front seats in the Denali model come standard with heating and ventilating functionality. In addition, opting for the available heated rear outboard seats extends the comfortable experience to all passengers.
Technology upgrades on the Denali trim include a wireless charging pad so you can ditch those pesky cables. In addition, GMC installed a premium 7-speaker Bose audio system in every Denali trim. This audio system was engineered specifically for the Terrain’s cabin. As a result, you experience theater-quality sound.
GMC’s active noise cancellation technology further enhances your sound quality. Active noise cancellation combines special sound-blocking and dampening materials to keep outside noise and vibrations from penetrating the cabin. In addition, Terrain’s in-cabin microphones recognize the unwanted sound and filter it out.
Your infotainment system also works with GMC Pro Safety Plus, your suite of driver-assist systems. These systems monitor and alert you to potential obstacles and other hazardous situations. Your alerts arrive in an audible, visual, and haptic context.
Audible alerts broadcast through your audio system to tell you a system detected a concern. Visual alerts occur on your outside mirrors when your turn signal indicator lights up in certain circumstances. Your infotainment touchscreen will also display alerts, as does your driver information interface. Finally, haptic feedback happens when the alert sends vibrations to your safety alert seat. This seat provides right, left, or combined vibrations indicating the direction of the obstacle or hazard.
Power to Perform
When you purchase a GMC Terrain, no matter the trim level, they all have a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. This transmission electronically modulates shifting to deliver smooth acceleration and power. This powertrain produces 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.
All-wheel drive comes standard on the Terrain’s AT4 and Denali trims, and you can add it as an option on the SLT. The SLE comes only in the front-wheel drive. If managing inclement weather isn’t essential, you can stick with the SLE. However, Youngstown, Ohio, winters can be challenging with all the snow and ice. GMC’s all-wheel-drive system monitors your Terrain’s driving dynamics, g-forces, and wheel spin. When necessary, the all-wheel-drive system sends torque to the wheels that can use it most, resulting in exceptional traction under adverse conditions.
