Buick Encore GX vs. Lincoln Corsair
The Buick Encore GX and the Lincoln Corsair crossover SUVs are both all-new for 2020, and they can both carry five people. The Corsair has a luxurious look, and the Encore GX looks sporty and athletic. The Encore GX comes in Preferred, Select, or Essence trims. With the 2020 Corsair, you can choose the Standard or Reserve trim levels. Keep reading to learn more about these appealing vehicles.
Exterior
The Encore GX has a sculpted hood, sculpted sides, and headlights with LED accents. There’s also a prominent grille with the Buick emblem in the middle, 18-inch wheels, automatic high beams, and tinted acoustic glass for the windshield. You’ll also get heated power side mirrors, fog lights, and roof rails. You can add a hands-free power liftgate, a keypad near the driver’s-side door for keyless entry, a panoramic power moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, or a grille with striking red accents.
The Corsair has a mesh grille and a sleeker look than the Encore GX. It also has unique rectangular fog lights, automatic high beams, heated power-folding side mirrors with memory settings, and chrome dual exhaust. Additional options include a windshield wiper de-icer, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a panoramic moonroof with a power sunshade, 19- or 20-inch wheels, and the ability to use your phone as a key.
Performance
With the Encore GX, you’ll get a continuously variable automatic transmission and an independent suspension for a smooth ride. This SUV is maneuverable and fun to drive. Its 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine provides 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. You can also select a three-cylinder, 1.3-liter, turbocharged motor that generates 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. With the 1.3-liter motor, you can add a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The 2020 Encore GX gets 26 mpg in traffic and 30 mpg on the open road. With all-wheel drive, the mileage stays the same in the city, and you can go 29 mpg on the highway.
The Corsair is also comfortable and fun to drive. It has an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for the steering wheel and active grille shutters. The four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine gives 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. A 2.3-liter motor that offers 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque is available as well.
Automatic start and stop technology shuts off the engine in traffic to prevent idling and conserve fuel in traffic. It also keeps accessories like speakers on. However, premium fuel is recommended. This SUV can travel 22 mpg in urban areas and 29 mpg on larger roads. With the 2.3-liter engine and all-wheel drive, it can go 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive system activates automatically when you need it, and it uses front-wheel drive for the rest of the time to save fuel.
You can choose from five driving modes: Excite, Normal, Slippery, Deep Conditions, or Conserve. The Corsair comes with electronic stability control, traction control, and up to 1,000 pounds of towing capacity as well. An engine block heater is optional, and the piano key shifter lets you press a convenient button for the gear you want.
Interior
The Encore GX’s attractive interior has a variety of useful features, including folding rear seats, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a 4.2-inch driver information display, a six-speaker sound system, an 8-inch touch screen, and voice recognition. You’ll also get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a removable cargo cover, a compass, cruise control, push-button start, and two USB charging ports.
You can add a 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, a 120-volt power outlet, a power-folding eight-way front passenger seat, navigation, and a collapsible cargo organizer. You can also choose wireless charging, a head-up display, dual-zone automatic climate control, a premium seven-speaker Bose audio system, heated leather front seats, remote start, a heated steering wheel, and SiriusXM satellite radio. An auto-dimming rearview mirror and an SD card reader for the center console are available as well.
The 2020 Lincoln Corsair comes with leather seats, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, active noise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, two 12-volt power outlets, a rear windshield washer and wiper, and remote start. You’ll also get two USB ports, voice activation, a premium audio system with 10 speakers, navigation, and an 8-inch touch screen.
SiriusXM satellite radio, power front seats with memory settings, and folding rear seats also come standard. Options include a universal garage door opener, adjustable ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, wood trim, heated seats, wireless charging, and a 14-speaker sound system, and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster.
Safety
The 2020 Encore GX has extensive safety features to increase your peace of mind and keep you and your passengers safe. This vehicle comes with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, a rearview camera, and lane-keeping assistance. The Encore GX also has forward collision warning, a security system, and a way to monitor your teen’s driving habits and limit audio volume and speed. You can add rear cross-traffic alert, parking assistance, and a 360-degree camera system.
The Lincoln Corsair comes with dual-stage front air bags, automatic emergency braking, restrictions for teen drivers, and a post-crash alert system. However, it doesn’t have many of the Encore GX’s more advanced safety features.
The Corsair’s warranty covers 50,000 miles and four years bumper-to-bumper, and the powertrain warranty covers six years and 70,000 miles. You’ll also get corrosion coverage for five years and unlimited miles. The Encore has a warranty of three years or 36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper; five years or 60,000 miles for the powertrain and roadside assistance; and three years or 36,000 miles for rust.
The Corsair looks more luxurious, and it has a few interior features that aren’t available with the Encore GX. However, the Encore GX is a better value for the price. It also has better safety, better fuel efficiency, and a more modern style.
