Which Buick SUVs Have the Best MPG?

July 9th, 2020 by

Frequent stops at the gas pump add to the stress and craziness of a busy life. Whether you enjoy traveling with friends or need a vehicle perfect for carpooling, SUVs are versatile and practical options for transporting cargo and carrying passengers.

Finding SUVs with best mpg ratings are even better, limiting your gas pump visits and letting you go longer between fill-ups. To make things even easier, we’ve compiled a list to help you determine which Buick SUVs have the best fuel economy.

2020 Enclave

Sitting between luxury three-row and mainstream SUVs, the 2020 Buick Enclave is available in four trim levels (Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Avenir) and delivers a more upscale feel than other family SUVs in its class.  With a comfortable, quiet cabin, seating for up to seven, and an impressive list of standard features, including sophisticated in-car technology, it’s definitely an SUV to consider.

The 2020 Enclave SUV is also one of the roomiest in its class, yielding almost 98 cubic feet of cargo room when you fold down second and third row seating. With seats up, drivers and passengers still have enough room to spread out and enjoy the ride comfortably.

With a 19 to 22-gallon fuel tank, the 2020 Enclave returns an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway when equipped with the 3.6-liter, V-6 engine generating 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque and paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Preferred trim only comes with front-wheel drive, while the other three trims come as either front or all-wheel drive with a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

2020 Envision

The small luxury SUV market is becoming increasingly more crowded, with manufacturers scrambling to impress buyers with style and flair. Buick has hit the mark with the 2020 Envision, its small SUV offering luxury and style at considerably less cost than many of its competitors.

A compact crossover SUV, the 2020 Buick Envision has seating for five and is available in five trims, including the Base, Preferred, Essence, Premium I, and Premium II. A 2.5-liter, I-4 engine producing 197 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with the Base, Preferred, and Essence Trims. The Base trim is only available with front-wheel drive, but the all-wheel-drive option is added at the Preferred and Essence levels.

Premium I and Premium II trims feature a 2.0-liter, I-4 turbocharged engine delivering 252 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 2020 Envision has a 17.3-gallon fuel tank and returns an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with the 2.5-liter engine model. The 2.0-liter engine gets 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

2020 Encore

While subcompact crossover SUVs are inherently smaller, that doesn’t mean they need to be lacking in technology or features. The 2020 Buick Encore is a perfect example, coming with the same infotainment system found in other Buick vehicles, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a WiFi hotspot augmenting standard USB and Bluetooth connections. The 2020 Encore can even be ordered with a heated steering wheel and remote engine start.

Available in four trim levels, including the Base, Preferred, Sport Touring, and Essence, the 2020 Encore comes with a 1.4-liter I-4 turbocharged engine generating 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque when paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. All-wheel-drive is an available option with all trims except the Base level. The Base and Preferred levels are equipped with standard features, while more desirable convenience and safety features are available with the Sport Touring and Essence levels.

With a 14-gallon fuel tank, the 2020 Buick Encore receives an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

2020 Encore GX

While greatly reducing sedans from its 2020 line-up, Buick continues to add SUVs to the family, including the all-new 2020 Encore GX. The Encore has been part of the Buick family since 2013. Rather than introducing a second-generation, Buick decided to give its successor a name of its own and sell the Encore and Encore GX side-by-side.

Slightly larger than its Encore cousin and boosting a more modern cabin design, the 2020 Encore GX is Buick’s extra-small crossover SUV available in three trims: Preferred, Select, and Essence.

The standard engine is a turbocharged 1.2-liter, I-3 engine delivering 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. This engine comes with all front-wheel-drive models and gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

A turbocharged 1.3-liter, I-3 engine producing 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque comes standard with the all-wheel-drive models and is an available option with front-wheel-drive Select and Essence models. This engine gets 26 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, and the Encore GX has a 13.2-gallon fuel tank.

2020 Regal TourX

For those not attached to the traditional high seat position of most crossover SUVs and still looking for SUV-like cargo space, the eccentric 2020 Buick Regal TourX may be just what you’re looking for.

Available in Base, Preferred, and Essence trim levels, the 2020 Buick Regal TourX offers an impressive 33 cubic feet of room with all seats in place. If you have large cargo to haul, you can fold the rear seats flat and more than double your cargo room to 74 cubic feet.

All trim levels come in all-wheel-drive with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine generating 250 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque that pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

With its 16.5-gallon fuel tank, the 2020 Regal TourX returns an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway with its standard 2.0-liter engine.
