Hummer EV Pickup vs Tesla Cybertruck

Auto experts predicted a few years back that electric trucks would be the most revolutionary thing about electric vehicles. As more automakers join the industry, experts predict there will be more competition in the coming years. Right now, the Hummer EV pickup and the Tesla Cybertruck are the main contenders fighting for the top place in the high-end electric truck space, but which one will take it home? Both offer a blend of ruggedness, power, high-technology performance, and some unique designs, despite having completely different looks. So, which one of the two will land on your wish list?

Price

If you’re shopping based on price, there’s no contest. The Hummer EV Pickup’s over-the-top list of features and capabilities makes it a strong contender for buyers willing to spend more than the Cybertruck’s price. The prices differ massively because these trucks occupy different tiers. For instance, the Hummer EV Pickup is going for $110,000, with the base model going lower to $80,000. These prices are the same if you choose the pickup or the SUV model.

The Tesla Cybertruck costs $40,000 to $50,000. Adding the 10-grand Full Self-Driving package to the tri-motor $70,000 Cybertruck pushes the price up to $80,000, which is the same as the cheapest Hummer.

Interior Design

The Hummer’s interior design is 100% classic Hummer. It’s wide and big with plenty of space inside. The new GMC Hummer is a bit more rounded at the corners than the traditional gas Hummer and has futuristic-looking LED headlamps. The cabin offers enough room for five people to sit comfortably, and a bunch of high-tech features provide a unique combination of convenience and innovations you’d expect for its price.

Among them include a 13.4 diagonal touch-screen control panel and a 12.3-inch gauge cluster. Over the driver’s head, GMC has placed what it calls Transparent Sky panels. These panels act as an ordinary sunroof, allowing passengers to see above the vehicle. However, these panels are removable, transforming the Hummer into an open-air top-tier muscle car.

The Cybertruck is a different animal altogether. It looks like a graphic sprite from a 1990s cyberpunk video game. This spartan look is true to Cybertruck’s interior and exterior designs. A massive 17-inch touch-screen display to handle all the vehicle functions and the transparent roof. The seats and dash take the same shape and design as the exterior, and the roof is angled to complete the design. The cabin is spacious but doesn’t offer as much as the Hummer.

Power

The Hummer EV Pickup is a big off-roader with plenty of power. With 1,000 horsepower on the Edition 1 model, you can expect to sprint from zero to 60 miles an hour in under three seconds. It’s important to note that the base trim, the EV2X, delivers 625 horsepower. The GMC Hummer has a lot of power, whichever way you look at it.

It’s worth noting that Hummer comes with a system known as WTF Mode or Watts to Freedom in full. It’s a launch mode like Tesla’s Ludicrous mode that allows you to test your vehicle’s acceleration. WTF Mode lowers the truck a few inches and sends the full force of 1,000 horsepower to the wheels.

Tesla hasn’t announced the horsepower of the Cybertruck. However, it did mention that the Cybertruck can go from zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds for the three-motor model, 4.5 seconds for the duel, and 6.5 seconds for the single motor.

Battery and Range

The Hummer EV Edition 1 provides up to 350 miles of range. The EV3X and EV2X offer a little less range at 300 and 250 miles. That’s impressive if you want an all-around vehicle. The Hummer’s real advantage is its charging system, which can handle up to 350 kW from any compatible DC charger. That means you’ll gain 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging. The only downside is that these chargers aren’t that popular, and you may struggle to find one on the road. You may consider installing one at your home.

The Tesla Cybertruck offers up to 250 miles of range for the single-motor model and 300 for the two-motor upgrade. However, the top trim model, which comes with three motors, can last up to 500 miles on a single charge. Its charging speed is slower at about 250 kW, but that’s enough to get you from 20% to 80% in 45 minutes. If you can find a Tesla-branded Supercharger fast charger, you can recharge at the fastest rate possible.

Towing and Off-Roading

GMC is yet to release towing information for the Hummer EV2x and  EV3X models that haven’t gone on sale yet. The first edition of Hummer claims to have a towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. This is impressive enough to tow your RV, boat, or camper. The Hummer is designed to overcome any terrain while delivering ruggedness and unique features.

The flashiest signature features are meant to make the monster truck even more powerful in the mud and dirt. All trim levels above the base model get a Crab Walk and crustacean-inspired features that allow every wheel to tilt in different directions to help the truck maneuver over slippery terrain.

Tesla claims the Cybertruck could haul and tow about 10,000 to 14,000 pounds. It also boasts impressive numbers, with up to 16 inches of ground clearance, a 28-degree departure angle, and a 35-degree approach angle.
