Luckily, no two courses are alike, so you’re bound to find one that you not only enjoy but is close by. If you find yourself in the Youngstown, Ohio, area, make sure you check out one of these eight impressive golf courses.

1. Bedford Trails Golf Course

Located just east of Youngstown in nearby Coitsville, Bedford Trails Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course that features 6,340 yards of golf from the longest tees. The par-70 course opened to the public in 1985 and is considered one of the area’s hidden gems. It offers golf specials almost daily, with most including golf and a cart as well as a meal at the on-site restaurant. Seniors and juniors will enjoy reduced walking fees and seniors can also take advantage of weekday 18-hole riding specials.

Before you hit the course, visit the chipping and putting practice greens to get a few swings in. Once you tee off, don’t let the course’s easy layout make you think it’s simple to conquer, as it has tight fairways lined with mature trees. The greens are relatively flat, but their small size will prove a challenge.

After your round of golf, stop into the restaurant and bar that overlooks the course. Dig into a wide array of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and have a few drinks at the full-service bar.

2. Henry Stambaugh Municipal Golf Course

Opened in 1923, the Henry Stambaugh Municipal Golf Course was named after a local philanthropist who donated the land, which turned into the 9-hole golf course. Situated in Youngstown on Gypsy Lane, the course features 3,420 yards of golf for a par of 36. Its well-groomed fairways and greens pave the way for stunning views. Golfers of all skill levels will find this course challenging but enjoyable.

3. Kennsington Golf Club

Designed by award-winning golf course architect Brian Huntley, Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield is an 18-hole par-71 course that takes up 7,050 yards. With tree-lined fairways, scenic ravines, and enticing lakes, the course also has strategically placed bunkers and bent grass greens. You can get a few practice swings in at the driving range and practice facility, which includes a putting green, chipping area, and target greens flanked by bunkers.

4. The Links at Firestone Farms

Also designed by Brian Huntley, The Links at Firestone Farms is an award-winning 18-hole golf course found in Columbiana. The par-72 course has 7,207 yards from its furthest tee, and it’s adorned with lush greenery, fast greens, and more than 50 bunkers. Before you tackle the course, head to the grass tee driving range and full-size putting green. If you want to refresh your wardrobe or golf bag, stop at the Pro Shop for the finest in golf equipment and gear. Its new banquet center hosts Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and features special buffets on certain holidays.

5. Mill Creek Golf Course

Featuring two 18-hole championship courses, Mill Creek Golf Course is in nearby Boardman. The course was designed by Donald Ross and opened to the public in 1928. Both par-70 courses have four sets of tees, encompassing 5,095 to 6,511 yards. There’s a state-of-the-art practice range that features eight targeted greens at varying distances so you can work on your accuracy and control. No matter what your skill level is, you can utilize its high-quality practice balls and synthetic mats to work on your game.

The South Course has tree-lined fairways with natural areas and streams coming into play over five holes, while the North Course weaves through tall trees and includes several natural hazards. To add to its difficulty, the course has more than 100 bunkers scattered throughout. Keep in mind that the course closes for golf in the winter, turning the facility into a place to cross-country ski.

To quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger, the course houses the Hole 55 Bar & Grille. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves beer and wine. You can enjoy your food and drink in the restaurant area or the scenic outdoor terrace, weather permitting.

6. Pine Lakes Golf Club

A privately held golf course established in 1926, Pine Lakes Golf Club is located in Hubbard. Newly renovated, the 18-hole course features 6,142 yards for a par 71. Its rolling terrain gives golfers of all ages a challenging yet enjoyable experience. Pine Lakes has the only PGA-approved practice facility in the Youngstown area, and it remains open year-round. It includes target greens, a sand bunker, sheltered trees with heaters, and lighting so you can practice in the evening.

There’s also a four-diamond lodging facility named Julia’s Bed and Breakfast situated on-site, so you can enjoy stay-and-play benefits.

7. Reserve Run Golf Course

As one of the newer golf courses in the area, Reserve Run Golf Course has only been open since 1999. It’s found in nearby Poland, Ohio, and has received accolades as one of the state’s top public courses. Designed by the renowned Barry Serafin, the 18-hole course features rolling fairways, beautiful lakes, and manicured greens. It has 6,200 yards with a par of 70. Stop into Another Round Bar and Grille for a bite to eat after you’re done golfing.

8. Youngstown Country Club

As one of the oldest premier private country clubs in the country, Youngstown Country Club was founded in 1898, just a decade after golf was brought over to the United States from Scotland. It wasn’t until the early 1900s that the 18-hole course was created by Walter Travis. Today, the 6,577-yard, par-71 course has tree-lined fairways, subtle breaking greens, and a meandering creek that comes into play on several holes.
