2024 GMC SUV Lineup | Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Hummer

December 28th, 2023 by

It may seem strange to modern consumers, but the SUV is a relatively new invention. While Jeep first coined the term in 1974, it didn’t become popular until the 1984 Jeep Cherokee XJ. The SUV is now a staple across America. These crossover vehicles, which combine the qualities of a station wagon and a pickup truck, are especially popular among large families. Today, one of the best manufacturers of top-quality SUVs is GMC. Here’s your comprehensive guide to the 2024 GMC SUV lineup.

Terrain

The 2024 GMC Terrain has four trims: the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. Each Terrain trim comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. GMC pairs this engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission for smooth and effortless shifting. Depending on the trim you select, your Terrain will come with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). According to the EPA, FWD Terrains get a combined 26 mpg, whereas those with AWD reach a combined 25 mpg.

Notable available features for the Terrain include the following:

  • Hands-free power programmable liftgate: It opens or closes when the system senses your key fob, and you use a kicking motion under the left-hand side of the rear bumper. An LED projection marks the activation spot, making it easy to find.
  • SkyScape power sunroof: You can open the sunroof entirely over the first row, tilt it to provide extra ventilation, or use the sunshade to block light and keep your vehicle cool while still giving you exceptional views.
  • Bose premium audio system: This seven-speaker audio system delivers the highest fidelity audio, putting you inside your favorite music or podcast.
  • GMC Pro Safety Plus: This comprehensive safety and driver-assistance suite includes a lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Acadia

Those who like the Terrain but want a more spacious SUV will enjoy the Acadia. The 2024 Acadia comes in three trims: the Elevation, AT4, and Denali. Unlike past generations, the 2024 Acadia has only one engine option – a 2.5L four-cylinder that generates 328 hp and 326 lb.-ft. of torque. Likewise, the new Acadia replaces its previous nine-speed transmission with an eight-speed unit, but you can still choose between front- or all-wheel drive. Either of these configurations can tow up to 5,000 lbs., a maximum capacity that exceeds competitors like the Honda Pilot and Kia Telluride.

Regardless of the trim, this model’s third generation is longer, taller, and wider than its previous iteration. This growth spurt allows you to carry an additional passenger (the Elevation seats eight, whereas the AT4 and Elevation seats seven), giving you more room for hauling luggage. According to GMC, the new Acadia has 80% more space behind the third row and approximately 36% more space with the rear seats stowed.

Some of the prominent available features of the Acadia include the following:

  • StabiliTrak: An electronic stability control system with traction control. This system automatically enhances control, especially during emergency maneuvers.
  • Active torque control AWD system: A specially tuned AWD system designed for off-road and multi-terrain environments. It gives you enhanced handling and stability no matter your surroundings.
  • A new infotainment touchscreen: A 15-inch, vertically oriented touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google built-in compatibility.

Yukon and Yukon XL

The Yukon and Yukon XL are for fans of GMC SUVs who want to maximize their seating or cargo space. The Yukon and Yukon XL come in five trims: the SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The Yukon and Yukon XL have three engine options with some available on certain trims: a 5.3-liter V-8, a 6.2-liter V-8, or a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel. These engines produce 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, and 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, respectively.

Each Yukon or Yukon XL pairs its motor with a 10-speed automatic transmission that includes the Traction Select System with Tow/Haul modes and sends its power through either front- or four-wheel drive. While the Yukon and Yukon XL share trims and engine options, they differ in length, passenger space, and cargo volume. Every Yukon has an overall length of 210 inches, third-row legroom of 34.9 inches, and a cargo volume of 25.5 cubic feet. The Yukon XL has an overall length of 225.2 inches, third-row legroom of 36.7 inches, and a cargo volume of 41.5 cubic feet.

HUMMER EV SUV

GMC’s 2024 HUMMER EV SUV has two trims: the 2X and 3X. The 2X has two fully electric motors, and the 3X has three. The HUMMER EV 2X generates up to 570 hp and 7,400 lb-ft of torque and has an EPA-estimated electric range of 303 miles. The HUMMER EV 3X produces up to 830 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque and has an EPA-estimated electric range of 314 miles.

The EPA estimates the HUMMER EV SUV achieves a combined 53 MPGe with standard tires, although this figure drops to 50 MPGe with all-terrain tires. Every HUMMER EV SUV’s Ultium battery has an onboard charging module with at-home 240V Level 2 charge rates of up to 19.2 kW. The HUMMER EV SUV can also use 800V DC fast charging, up to 300 kW. Level 2 charging, the most common charging speed, gives you up to 16 miles of max range per charge hour. You can get almost 100 miles of range through DC fast charging in only 12 minutes.

Other essential features of the HUMMER EV SUV include the following:

  • Regen on Demand steering wheel paddle: Activate regenerative braking on demand to capture otherwise lost energy and send that energy to the battery.
  • Infinity roof: You can remove your roof panels to create an immersive open-air driving experience.
  • Underbody cameras: Forward- and rear-facing cameras under the vehicle’s body let you see any potential obstacles.
  • Electronic 4-wheel steer with CrabWalk: It provides greater maneuverability while parking or navigating off-road trails. CrabWalk gives you unique diagonal-drive functionality.
