The Electric Buick Wildcat: Possible Specs, Features, & Price
It’s been more than 50 years now since the last Buick Wildcat rolled off an assembly line. Buick produced the full-size Wildcat from 1963 through 1970 and enjoyed some success with it before ending its run.
But over time, Buick has continued to use the Wildcat name when designing a variety of impressive concept cars. For example, Buick assigned the Wildcat name to a 1985 mid-engine sports concept car that the company created. It also assigned the name to a 1997 Buick Riviera Wildcat concept car.
What’s the Buick Wildcat Luxury Electric Vehicle (EV)?

The latest Buick Wildcat concept car might be the most exciting one from the Buick family. It’s a Buick Wildcat luxury EV, and while it won’t be put into production, the Wildcat EV does seem to show where Buick is heading when it comes to creating EVs.
Here’s what you need to know about the electric Buick Wildcat.
Back in spring, Buick turned plenty of heads when it unveiled its new Buick Wildcat EV for the first time. Initially, there was some speculation about it possibly being a new car that Buick was going to add to its lineup. But Buick was quick to point out that it was only a concept car.
Though the four-seat fastback coupe was able to capture plenty of attention, its eye-catching, sleek design made it look nothing like the lineup of SUVs that Buick sells right now. That was likely done intentionally to make it stand out from other Buick models.
But all indications are that Buick isn’t going to mass produce the Wildcat EV or even anything like it anytime soon. The point of pushing it out into the public eye was simply to drum up interest in Buick’s newfound push toward producing more EVs over the course of the next five to 10 years.
Why Did Buick Create the Wildcat EV?
If Buick isn’t planning to mass produce the Wildcat luxury EV, you might be confused as to why the company decided to design it in the first place. There are actually a couple of reasons they did this.
First and foremost, Buick created the Wildcat EV to show that it’s capable of creating a great-looking EV. That alone would’ve made the concept car well worth it to Buick executives.
But Buick later revealed that the company also created the Wildcat EV to inspire the designers who are working behind the scenes to come up with blueprints for new Buick EVs that’ll hit the market sometime in the not-too-distant future. The thought is that the Wildcat EV will encourage these designers to push the boundaries when they’re dreaming up innovative designs for Buick EVs. It seems Buick is out to prove that an EV can be efficient and look stunning.
Which Features Are Found in the Buick Wildcat EV?

The Buick Wildcat EV has a wide array of features that may or may not make the cut as the company’s designers continue to create new EVs.
One of the first things you’ll notice is that the Wildcat EV includes a brand-new Buick badge on it. It still features the three shields that have always been used in the Buick logo. But those shields have broken free from the circle that they used to be enclosed in. This makes the new Buick logo look more modern than the current one.
There are also some other more off-the-wall features found in the Buick Wildcat luxury EV that probably won’t make their way into new Buick EVs anytime soon. For instance, it takes a stab at using biometrics to gauge what kind of mood people are in when driving it. It takes the data it records to utilize things such as aromatherapy to try and calm you down while relaxing inside the Wildcat EV. Another fantastical feature is the ability to change its exterior color to match your outfit or mood.
These kinds of features probably won’t pop up in a Buick EV or an EV from any other automaker, for that matter. But it does suggest that things like biometrics could find a home in cars sooner than we all might think.
Will Buick Roll Out an EV Lineup Soon?

The sad news for those who’ve seen the Buick Wildcat EV and thought, “I want one!”, is that you’re not going to be able to secure one since Buick won’t be bringing them to market. But the good news is that while it was busy showing off the Wildcat EV, Buick was also busy telling anyone who’d listen about its upcoming lineup of EV vehicles.
Buick is starting to map out a new lineup of electric cars that’ll carry the name Electra. Coincidentally, Buick used this same name on a lineup of large cars that guzzled way too much gas during the end of the 20th century. But this time around, Buick is committed to producing as many EVs as it can.
Buick is so committed to this cause that it has already vowed to have its entire lineup of SUVs be nothing but EVs by the time 2030 rolls around. It’s going to be joining a long list of other automakers that are making similar pushes to go all-electric within the next decade.
